West Central Missouri Community Action Agency (WCMCAA), is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, incorporated in July of 1965 and designated by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 as a Community Action Agency Our service area includes: Bates, Benton, Cass, Cedar, Henry, Hickory, Morgan, St. Clair and Vernon counties and limited services are provided in Barton, Jackson, Johnson, Lafayette, Pettis and Saline counties.

West Central Missouri Community Action Agency is a member of the Community Action Partnership, a national organization representing the interests of the over 1,000 community action agencies across the country that fight poverty on the local level.

With more than 70 programs, West Central Missouri Community Action Agency offers a continuum of services for individuals and families with low incomes in our community. Our programming is designed to meet the needs of people of all ages, from infants to seniors. The agency believes in strength-based and outcome-based services, working to build upon the skills of those we serve in order to effectively address the challenges that they face.

  Financial Literacy Classes

The Housing Division presented 30 workshop/classes during the 2007 calendar year. The focus has been budgeting, credit issues and home ownership.

Watch for new classes being announced in March of 2008, on budget, credit and identity theft to be held in April, May and June of 2008.

Several candidates have included anti-poverty issues in their policy platforms. Just over two weeks ago, the website Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity was launched to track what the presidential candidates have to say on these important issues -- a good resource for the Community Action network.

Legislative Update... 
On November 26, 2007, members of the Region VII Association of Community Action Agencies participated in a conference call with David Bradley, Executive Director of the National Community Action Foundation. David gave an update regarding legislative issues, the budget process, and specific funding for community action programs.
David informed the members that the three major issues for votors appear to be:
1) The Iraq War
2) Healthcare
3) A desire change in Washington, D.C.

Region VII ACAA represents Community Action Agencies in MO, KS, IA and NE.
